Why I became an editor
Since childhood, I have been an avid reader and writer. In college, however, I chose to earn a degree in a very different field: computer science with a minor in psychology. Though I enjoyed my time in college, after graduating, I decided to follow my childhood passion, and began a new career in editing and proofreading. My detail-oriented nature helps me to spot errors in others' writing, and I enjoy making their work as clear, concise, and meaningful as possible.
Background and experience
In college, I was a poetry editor for the campus magazine. I have also worked in software engineering.
Why I love proofreading and editing
I enjoy the process of smoothing inconsistencies, removing errors, and making someone else's words clearer and stronger. It’s like holding a sculpture someone else carved, and then going over it with sandpaper, smoothing down its rough edges with the goal of perfecting their work. I especially enjoy proofreading academic writing, particularly those in the field of psychology, computer science, and literature analysis. I have experience in the APA and MLA referencing styles.
Favorite book:
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by J. K. Rowling
Hobbies:
When not proofreading, I am often baking, drawing, gaming, or playing Dungeons & Dragons.
Editing tips:
When proofreading, I always read the document out loud at least once. I find that simply hearing the sentences helps me find many of the errors within them.
