Favorite referencing style
My favourite referencing style is APA because it is the one I know best.
Why I became an editor
I became an editor because accuracy in writing is important, and I am keen to spot errors! Proofreading allows me to apply my skills of thoroughness and precision to written work. It is very rewarding to help other people achieve better standards in their writing.
Background and experience
Although I originally studied science, I have mostly worked as a self-taught chef. I also created a food product and brought it successfully to the supermarket shelves. In 2017, the product was a finalist in the Irish Food Awards. I am currently employed as a craft baker in a small artisan bakery.
Why I love proofreading and editing
What I love about proofreading is how small corrections make transformative improvements to the effectiveness of a piece of writing, allowing for greater clarity, fluency and elegance. I also enjoy the opportunity to read about interesting topics that I would not otherwise encounter in my daily life.
Favorite book:
The Heart's Invisible Furies by John Boyne.
Hobbies:
I like to go on coastal walks, and sometimes I take a dip! I am learning fingerpicking on the guitar, and I also enjoy knitting.
Editing tips:
My proofreading tip is to trust your instinct. If a sentence feels clunky and the meaning is confused, be sure to take a closer look at how it is put together.
