I find APA so fascinating I bought the hard copy book.
Why I became an editor
I studied English literature in college and was a writing tutor as well. I specialized in tutoring ESL students and was a teaching assistant for a freshman ESL class. I enjoyed helping the students with both writing and public speaking skills. After college, I became an elementary school teacher and then transitioned to early childhood literacy. I never lost my passion for proofreading and helping people create their best work!
Background and experience
I taught special education for five years through the NYC Teaching Fellows program. I then taught at a private school in Manhattan and worked in their office as well. One of my tasks was overseeing report card distribution and helping teachers with their report card writing. Then I taught preschool and preschool literacy for five years before becoming assistant director of the same school. This was a private Jewish school, so I also have an extensive background in Judaism and Jewish studies.
Why I love proofreading and editing
I love getting the opportunity to help an author's voice shine through. A properly edited and proofread document allows the author to communicate their topic effectively and without distraction. In my experience, even people very knowledgeable in their field can benefit from good editing and proofreading to ensure that they are putting forward their best work.
Favorite book:
“Emma” by Jane Austen.
Hobbies:
Read, hike, bake, and watch baking shows!
Editing tips:
I print out a hard copy to work with first. I also make a checklist based on common errors. I read the document out loud before and after editing.
