Why I became an editor
Growing up in Germany, I always liked the English language. My engineering background brought me to the US where I realized that I had a knack, even a passion, for spotting errors and using the language correctly. So, proofreading became a logical choice for me. By helping others with their writing, I keep improving my skills.
Background and experience
In my spare time, I volunteer proofreading time to the Gutenberg Project.
Why I love proofreading and editing
Proofreading to me is like reading a mystery novel and trying to find out who the bad guy (i.e., the error) is. I enjoy that challenge very much. But proofreading also has a creative component, in which the author and the proofreader team up to create the best possible document and a win for both of us.
Favorite book:
I am certainly no youngster anymore, but the Harry Potter series of books is one of my favorite reads.
Hobbies:
When I am not proofreading, you might find me walking the dog, updating my blog, or enjoying a mystery show on TV.
Editing tips:
As a proofreader, you might find that you tend to overlook certain types of errors. Create a personalized checklist that helps you remember to look for these errors.
