Why I became an editor
I have always been in love with reading. It started in elementary school with books like The Hobbit, Harry Potter, and The Chronicles of Narnia. This passion came to a head in college when I got a job as a writing center tutor. I realized that helping people write down their thoughts and tell a story was my dream job.
Background and experience
My first job in the editing world was as a tutor while I attended college. When I completed my BA in English, I wanted to learn more, so I went on to get my Master of Professional Studies degree in Publishing. I have since worked as a freelance editor and proofreader.
Why I love proofreading and editing
I love reading someone's work and helping them improve their writing. Finding little mistakes is like playing a game for me, and I enjoy making sure a piece of writing is the best it can be. Creative writing, fiction, and novels are my passion, but I’ll happily read anything.
Favorite book:
The Harry Potter series by JK Rowling is my favorite set of books.
Hobbies:
If I'm not reading, I'm crocheting amigurumi dolls, playing with my kids, baking something delicious, or watching an exciting sci-fi or fantasy TV show.
Editing tips:
I read several paragraphs before I start. This helps me to set my mind on the subject and get a true feel for the author's voice and intentions.
