Favorite referencing style
APA is my favorite because it is the one I am most familiar with.
Why I became an editor
I have always enjoyed reading and learning, and when I studied law at university, I discovered a love of research. I’m always doing some form of proofreading, whether it be checking business material, reports, or essays. I’ve always enjoyed it and ultimately decided to take a proofreading course. Proofreading professionally is ideal for me, as it combines the things that I love most—reading, learning, and helping others to improve their writing.
Background and experience
I had a managerial role at a motor dealership chain in Scotland, and worked for the the latter 20 years as a company director responsible for legal, audit, employee and marketing matters. I also worked as a secretary/personal assistant to AGM at the Bank of Scotland head office in Edinburgh, and I worked with employee contracts and disciplinary matters.
Why I love proofreading and editing
I find it immensely satisfying to identify errors in what I’m reading and make the necessary corrections. It is also very enjoyable to make changes/suggestions to improve the flow of the text.
Favorite book:
Sometimes I Lie by Alice Feeney is my favorite book.
Hobbies:
My hobbies include playing sports, listening to music, playing the drums, gardening, socialising, eating and drinking, and traveling. I also love playing backgammon (but only when I win!).
Editing tips:
I find it useful to read it through a couple of times before noting any errors/issues to gain an overall feel for what the author is aiming to say. Then I proofread the document line-by-line.
