My favorite referencing style is APA because I used it a lot when writing essays at university.
Why I became an editor
I studied English Philology at university, which involved subjects like linguistics, history of the English language, and English literature and culture. This provided me with thorough knowledge of the mechanisms of the English language, as well as its cultural and historical background. After university, I immediately started teaching and gained experience in preparing students for Cambridge and their IELTS exams, which involved correcting some of their writing. I learned that I really enjoy teaching about writing and ensuring that a text is not only grammatically correct but also coherent and consistent.
Languages and the written word have always been my passion. In my free time, I study new languages and write fiction. I believe that being an editor is a perfect match for both my educational background and personal interests. I love to write, I love to read, and I love to make sure that everything reads smoothly.
Background and experience
I have over 10 years of experience in teaching English as a foreign language. Recently, I became a speaking examiner, and I also have some experience with translating and proofreading in the field of human rights.
Why I love proofreading and editing
What I love about proofreading and editing is making sure that an interesting text reads well, doesn’t have any errors, and is linguistically comprehensive. I also enjoy learning new things about different topics while I’m editing a document.
Favorite book:
My favorite books are The life before us by Romain Gary and The unbearable lightness of being by Milan Kundera.
Hobbies:
When I’m not proofreading, I’m writing a poem or a short story, doing yoga, or flamenco dancing.
Editing tips:
I find it particularly useful to divide a proofreading task into smaller steps. First, I read the whole document to get a feel for the topic, style, and author’s voice. Then I look for typos and grammatical errors. Next, I make sure the text is coherent and consistent, and usually, I’ll check the references and formatting last.
