Favorite referencing style
APA is my favorite referencing style because it's the one I'm most familiar with.
Why I became an editor
Since childhood, I've always been fascinated by reading and English grammar.
I was the co-founder and general editor of a social care business. I really enjoyed this role, being motivated by my belief that clear and precise written documents are crucial to a business's professionalism.
My love of the English language and desire to help others communicate inspired me to become an adult ESL teacher. I taught English for 10 years after completing the CELTA exam in 2007.
Background and experience
I worked in information technology for over 20 years, mostly in healthcare, where I programmed computers and trained medical and clerical staff on using medical software.
Later, I became the director of a foster care agency, which I helped grow from a startup to a successful business. My duties included editing and proofreading all of the agency's documents.
I then became an English as a foreign language teacher, specializing in helping students pass the IELTS exam, which includes a lot of academic writing.
Why I love proofreading and editing
I love helping people communicate more clearly. I also find it rewarding to work on a document and make it as close to perfect as possible.
Favorite book:
The Sea, The Sea by Iris Murdoch
Hobbies:
If I'm not traveling, I read travel books or watch travel videos.
Editing tips:
I like to read the complete document to understand the author's message. I also use a checklist to hunt for errors that my brain's automatic autocorrection may have missed.
