Why I became an editor
I studied biotechnology at university, which involved subjects like biochemistry, microbiology, and genetics. Reading has been one of my favorite pastimes.
Proofreading provides me an opportunity to read and keeps me exposed to research/happenings occurring worldwide.
Background and experience
After completing my master's in biotechnology, I joined Bangalore Genei Pvt. Lt., Bangalore, India as an executive officer. My work responsibilities included carrying out quality checks for the products (2005–2009).
At Merck Life Sciences Pvt. Lt. (2009–2015), I worked as a scientific officer in the quality control department. My work responsibilities included carrying out quality checks for the products, making SOPs, proofreading manuals and brochures, and handling customer complaints.
Why I love proofreading and editing
Proofreading gives me an opportunity to read different forms of writing, which I love. I also get exposed to the latest research carried out worldwide. I love proofreading and editing anything on science, history, and philosophy, and I am experienced in APA, Harvard, and Chicago referencing.
Favorite book:
Mrs. Funnybones by Twinkle Khanna
Hobbies:
When I am not proofreading, I like to spend time with my family.
Editing tips:
The technique that has worked for me is taking a break in between read-throughs. Apart from this, I like to read a document first to get an idea of what the author is trying to convey.
