Favorite referencing style
I am experienced with the AP style from my work with newspapers and have recently learned the APA style.
Why I became an editor
Through the encouragement of a high school English teacher, I stumbled into the perfect degree program for me: communications. I worked as a newspaper reporter before taking some years off to be home with my children. Now I miss the process of helping people communicate with each other through interviewing and writing. Proofreading has been the perfect way to step back into writing work while still spending most of my time with my family.
Background and experience
I worked as a contract reporter and then a full-time newspaper reporter for more than eight years before deciding to stay home with my young children.
Why I love proofreading and editing
Helping people communicate effectively is my passion. Every writer needs an editor and a proofreader, no matter how experienced they are, to catch those little mistakes that could distract from their message. When I can remove the distractions and help a writer tell their story clearly, that gives me joy.
Favorite book:
The Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman is my favorite book.
Hobbies:
When not proofreading (or doing housework), I enjoy pilates, new recipes, and time with friends and family.
Editing tips:
I follow a checklist with each document to be thorough. I also close the document and come back to it later for a fresh read-though. Reading aloud helps to catch little mistakes, too.
