Favorite referencing style
My favorite style is MLA because I studied History and Classics in college and loved writing essays!
Why I became an editor
I am a writer as well as an editor, and the transition came about quite naturally. I was editing and critiquing the work of other writers, and found it really enjoyable and helpful in regards to my own writing. Editing and proofreading is endlessly interesting to me because of its rigor and variety, and whether I'm editing a poetry collection, business copy, or an essay on zoology, there's always something new I'm learning along the way.
Background and experience
I worked as editor and founder of The Gremlin, a producer and writer for The Bram Stoker Festival, a volunteer and writing workshop facilitator at the Small Trans Library, a floor manager and social media manager for Smyths Bar of Ranelagh, a digital marketing consultant for The Passenger Press, a freelance proofreader for Messenger Publications, and an editor, proofreader, and creative director for Liberation Anthology.
Why I love proofreading and editing
I love having the opportunity to give an individual piece of writing the attention it deserves, tailoring my skills to suit its needs. Every work is so different, and my background in creative writing and marketing pushes me to support the writer's voice in whatever capacity it requires, challenging me to work harder each time.
Favorite book:
I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith
Hobbies:
At the risk of sounding boring, I'm usually reading or writing!
Editing tips:
I like to use a checklist at the beginning and the end for finer details like numbers, hyphens, apostrophes, etc. I try to give each part of the proofreading and editing process equal attention.
