Why I became an editor
I studied biological sciences at university and then went on to do a master in science, culture and communication. After this, I worked at a medical publishing company for eight years, progressing to senior editor level.
I worked on a variety of communication projects, including journals, books and events. I specialised in scriptwriting and researching for 3D animations. Proofreading is the perfect opportunity for me to use my experience in these areas to help others communicate effectively.
Background and experience
I worked for a medical publishing company for eight years as an editor publishing books, event communications and public health campaigns. I particularly enjoyed writing scripts and eventually specialised in scriptwriting for 3D animations.
Why I love proofreading and editing
I love the process of spotting errors and preparing a document to look its best. I particularly enjoy proofreading and editing anything connected with the biological sciences, but I enjoy reading widely and am able to turn my hand to anything that comes my way. I have most experience with Chicago and AMA styles from my previous work.
Favorite book:
His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman.
Hobbies:
I enjoy countryside walks, reading and baking cakes.
Editing tips:
A proofreading checklist helps to prevent you from forgetting anything you may have missed. A referencing cheat sheet is also really useful.
