Why I became an editor
I have been an English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher on and off for 15 years, teaching both children and adults. Because of this, I am very familiar with English grammar and enjoy helping others improve their language skills. I also enjoy reading and writing on my own time. Now, as a first-time mom, I put those skills toward a new career in proofreading. Proofreading gives me the flexibility to work from home while doing something I enjoy and still being able to help others.
Background and experience
My background is in teaching ESL. I've worked individually and in small groups with children and adults ranging from 5 years old to 50 plus. I've taught classes ranging from conversational English to Business English and from beginners to advanced learners. I also worked as a freelance transcriptionist from 2016 to 2018, transcribing files for various media.
Why I love proofreading and editing
I love polishing a wonderful piece of writing. Writing can take a lot of work and dedication, and I feel that proofreading helps make that hard work shine. Taking part in bringing your work to completion is quite satisfying, and I’m more than happy to do so. You’ve done the hard stuff, I’m just here to make sure your final product shines!
Favorite book:
Dictionary of the Khazars by Milorad Pavić is my favorite book.
Hobbies:
When I'm not proofreading, I like to read, write, or spend time with my lovely dog and cat. Soon, I’ll be taking care of a new baby!
Editing tips:
I like to thoroughly go over any style guides provided before I take an in-depth look at the document.
