Favorite referencing style
My favorite referencing style is the one that works for my client, although I prefer the parenthetical systems like Harvard, MLA, and APA, as I think they allow the text to flow more naturally than some of the other systems.
Why I became an editor
I have almost 20 years of experience and a strong background in creative communications. I am educated to a degree level in the arts. I love reading, but I think I love writing even more! With that passion comes a sharp eye for detail and the ability to spot an error a mile off. Proofreading is the perfect combination of what I'm good at and enjoy doing, and there is a real need for it in academic, business, and creative fields.
Background and experience
Much of my work has involved creating messages and written materials that communicate complex subjects clearly and with impact. I've written editorial features, marketing messages, press releases, academic papers, and web content for a wide range of purposes. I have developed the abilities to draft compelling text and adapt the written work of others.
Why I love proofreading and editing
I have always had a passion for making things work; that has been the driving force in both my career and personal interests. There is nothing more satisfying than taking something that's not quite right and making it flow and work perfectly, resulting in something that is absolutely fit for purpose. I enjoy proofreading and editing anything about art and culture, and I am also really interested in natural history and psychology.
Favorite book:
I can’t pick a favorite, but one year when I was home alone with the flu, I read Boris Pasternak's Doctor Zhivago from cover to cover without seeing or speaking to another soul!
Hobbies:
I love art and nature. In my spare time, I take photographs, go for long walks in the mountains, and swim in lakes. I also love reading, watching films, and cooking.
Editing tips:
It's important to read through the text first to get a feel for the author's voice, the document structure, and the styling conventions in use (if there is no style guide defined).
