10 Creative Writing Prompts We’re Loving from TikTok

If you’re suffering from writer’s block, the internet is full of interesting prompts to get your creative juices flowing again. TikTok, in particular, has become a haven for creative writers needing new ideas.

Today, we’ve compiled a list of ten creative writing prompts from TikTok that we hope will inspire you to put pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard!).

1.   An Ulterior Motive

Write a story about a criminal who commits crimes only to catch the attention of a certain police officer.

2.   A Wrong (or Right?) Choice

Write a story in which the protagonist chooses fame over family. What leads them to do so, and what are the consequences?

3.   A Secret Villain

Write about a “hero” who isn’t really the hero. Although they’re controlling everyone around them, they can’t control the supposed “villain” of the story.

4.   A Repeat Customer

A character runs a tattoo parlor, and one customer comes in every few weeks asking for the same tattoo: a tally mark added to an ever growing number of tally marks.

5.   A Seasonal Challenge

Write a story or a scene that somehow ties all four seasons together at the end: winter, spring, summer, and fall.

6.   An Experiment Gone Wrong (or Right?)

A character’s spouse is a scientist who spends their workdays conducting experiments in their basement lab. One day, the main character goes downstairs – only to discover that their spouse has disappeared.

7.   Lyrical Inspiration

Write a story using the name of your current favorite song as the title. Try to take the story in a direction that’s completely different from the song lyrics.

8.   A Genie With a Twist

Write a story about a genie who grants three wishes – but after the third wish, they get to switch places with the human.

9.   A Mystery Puddle

A character notices a large puddle on the ground, but no rain has fallen in months, and no other puddles are anywhere in sight. How did the puddle get there? What happens when the character steps into it?

10. An Intentional Fire

Time travel is now possible, and your character’s job is to go back in time to prevent the burning of the Library of Alexandria. But when they get there, they learn that it was destroyed for a very good reason.
