Why I became an editor
I was that rare student at university who loved writing essays! I liked working with words and enjoyed the process of presenting information succinctly. Since then, I have had a varied career. But, in becoming an editor, it feels like I have come full circle. I feel fortunate to be doing a job that I love.
Background and experience
I studied Zoology at university and have a particular interest in primates. I have worked with lemurs in Madagascar and orangutans in Borneo. I then lived in South Africa for five years where I taught English as a second language. I am a complete foodie and have written a successful food blog with recipes published in newspapers and magazines.
Why I love proofreading and editing
Text that is clear, concise and flows beautifully is my passion. I love helping others to achieve that goal.
Favorite book:
Brazzaville Beach by William Boyd. The main character, Hope, is an ecologist who studies wild chimpanzees.
Hobbies:
Eat a lot! And walk my South African rescue dog, Poppy.
Editing tips:
Focus on the obvious errors first.
