Why I became an editor
I initially earned a nursing degree, but my passion has always been writing and editing. I recently went back to school and earned a bachelor's degree in English with a minor in creative writing. My classes provided many opportunities for me to read and provide feedback on my peers' work. I discovered that I really enjoyed this and wanted to find a way to keep doing it after I graduated. Proofreading became an obvious fit! I'm happy to indulge my love of reading and help people at the same time.
Background and experience
While at Bowling Green State University, I volunteered as an assistant editor for Praire Margins, an undergraduate literary journal.
Why I love proofreading and editing
I love helping other people perfect their voices so they can tell the best story possible. I especially enjoy proofreading creative work and persuasive essays. I have a background in nursing, so I am familiar with medical writing and terminology as well. I also wrote lots of research papers in college, so I have experience with different reference guides, including MLA and APA.
Favorite book:
The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah.
Hobbies:
I love to cook, bake, garden, knit, do puzzles, and attend theater performances!
Editing tips:
I like to read through a document to get an understanding of the writer's overall message before I begin making corrections. This helps me to best preserve the writer's intention and voice.
