Favorite referencing style
My favorite referencing style is Chicago because I have used it the most frequently.
Why I became an editor
I was born with a love of books, and I always knew I wanted to work with the written word. I spent 20 years creating and proofing closed captions, and now I have expanded my proofreading beyond the screen!
Background and experience
I spent 20 years as a closed caption editor and proofreader and four years as a school librarian. Prior to that, I worked at a bookstore. Clearly, the written word is my favorite thing!
Why I love proofreading and editing
Proofreading is like reading – but better! I get to hear new perspectives and learn new things, and I get to help contribute to a wonderful finished product. It's a very satisfying job.
Favorite book:
Some of my favorites are 1984 by George Orwell, The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay by Michael Chabon, The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern, and Destiny of the Republic by Candice Millard.
Hobbies:
When not proofreading, I like to read, travel, visit museums, hike, and bake.
Editing tips:
I find that it's useful to read the document aloud to catch errors. It's also helpful to step away for a little while and come back with a fresh pair of eyes.
